General THPS(X) / Suggestions For Custom Skaters
« on: July 17, 2018, 11:39:27 am »
I have a couple suggestions on how you might be able to get custom skater models to work in a similar way to how custom levels work now (re. without having to replace anything). The first is the least elegant but still perfectly serviceable and likely the easiest to implement (I say likely since I don't know the first thing about making/modding games), and the second method is more graceful but, I would imagine, considerably more tasking to accomplish.

The first idea is that, after the main skaters on Character Select, you could have a set of 20 or so cloned placeholder skaters (maybe Tonys or something) so that you can have a set of custom models without having to worry about replacing anything - online you would only appear to be skating as Tony, unless the person viewing you has a different model assigned to that particular Tony. It might also be possible to set names for them once you've assigned a new model to them?

Alternatively, you could make it work similarly to the new levels, with the .json files and everything so that they're just added to Character Select as you download them. As for the issue of how they'd work online, I thought perhaps you could have it so that the game detects that you're using a custom skater and replace it with a default character for observers (could be difficult to implement) and have a prompt before you play that says something like "You are using a custom player model. Other players who do not have this model downloaded will see you as [x default game character]" with maybe an option to change what that character is?

Create-A- / Full Downloadable Characters list!
« on: July 23, 2017, 06:10:41 pm »
So this is something that's existed for a while but I haven't posted it here yet.
Basically, I've been compiling a Google Docs list of all of the characters that've been rigged for THUG PRO with download links, as an easy way to find characters to play as until THPSX gets a proper custom characters page.
Here's the list https://docs.google.com/document/d/18fD2RFDMKT_e-hRU3UQksnTEhPgswmFG0RA9qOnMAG4/edit?usp=sharing

I'll keep a log of any changes I make to the list here, and if you see anything missing/outdated from the list please don't hesitate to throw me a message or something

This is such an exciting feature! Will we eventually see a more streamlined sharing system where it doesn't replace an existing level?

Very cautious but also very hyped. Hope it's a proper, solid title, not a mobile or VR thing or something like that. Imagine if we just got a genuinely awesome new game. I didn't think it'd ever happen but now there's hope.

Nice! That is legit. Hope to see the day when we can all make our own real levels and import them.

Thanks for the kind words! Won't be long now hopefully!

Create-A- / Modelling a level from scratch - Liverpool
« on: January 29, 2017, 05:58:19 pm »
I am making a park entirely from scratch in Sketchup, with the intent of putting it into THUG PRO once those kinds of tools are available, and I thought I'd record progress of the level's creation here!
So I thought I'd first start with an Imgur gallery to detail the process and how far I've got, and you can find that here http://imgur.com/a/D8hYE

So that's how it is so far, and I'll update this thread with more pictures as I make progress. Feedback would also be greatly appreciated!

Whatever / Re: Story behind your Username
« on: January 07, 2017, 09:44:41 pm »
Mine's not really much beyond its face value. I needed a name for my YouTube channel and I thought Cosmic Collector was a fair enough description of my hobbies (Cosmic = I like sci fi, Collector = I collect stuff) then TheCosmicCollector was taken so I went all Mortal Kombat with it and then there was the username that I've used for literally everything since

That's a pretty nice playlist! I guess you're gonna be updating it?

I sure am! If I find any more songs that fit the feel I'm going for I'll add it

I made a playlist on YouTube of all-new songs, that, for me, will act as the new soundtrack to THUG PRO. I tried to keep in with the feel of the first two games while adding some newer stuff. Also it's a little light on the hip-hop side of things so be wary of that. Anyway, enjoy!

note: some songs aren't available on mobile so make sure you listen to them on a desktop. Better yet, download the mp3's to avoid ads and pauses between songs

Now that I have mentioned this, I have to write a disclaimer:
We're not going to include any of these levels in an official THUG Pro update.
But its an interesting topic, and once we have a better workflow / interface for user created content, we will probably see some stuff in game.

Hey, cheers for the reply Morten! That's understandable and I'm looking forward to seeing user-created content become more prevalent. Once it does and useful tools become available I might go about porting a few levels myself!

a bit off topic, but ps2 era GTA maps would be sick. even if its just sections of old maps since the full GTA map might be a bit big for this sort of thing. the boardwalk in Vice City where you first save the game is one i really would like to see.

also the skateparks littered around GTAV. ive always wanted to put those to proper use.

Hah, I never considered that. The skatepark in San Andreas could be pretty fun. I think though if you were to import non-skatepark sections you'd need to add some skatable objects in after the fact since the maps aren't built for skating

Let me preface this by saying, I know the devs are working their asses off trying to get the rest of the Tony Hawk levels into THUG PRO and I totally appreciate that, and what this topic is about is only speculation for the future.
That being said, do you guys know of any other games where the levels could be fun in THUG PRO? Of course there's Aggressive Inline and the Matt Hoffman games, and I reckon the levels from Evolution Skateboarding (namely the MGS Big Shell one) would be pretty cool.
Any other ideas?

BMX XXX
As long as nobody request CAS parts, fine by me. ;)

Haha yeah. I've never played it either but Ive seen some gameplay and the levels could be fun in the TH engine

Yeah I'm not sure if Mario levels would be great for skating unless some skate-y bits were added after the fact which I'm sure could be possible. Now, if it were possible to import levels from other extreme sorts games like Aggressive Inline, BMX XXX and Evolution Skateboarding that would be amazing
