General THPS(X) / Create-A-Park Mode Visual Glitches
« on: January 24, 2021, 11:18:00 pm »
I brought this up in the Discord already but not in the forum yet, but in the latest 2 or 3 updates I have noticed a few graphical glitches (mainly in the Create-A-Park mode) that seem to have started around October of last year.  I have noticed that when I place the block pieces next to each other in a row, there appears to now be "line seams" separating each of the parts that were not present before the updates.  In addition, there appears to be more bloom in some areas compared to what it was like before the updates.  To verify that it was not just my computer, I tried checking on my brother's laptop that did not have the new updates applied yet and it did not have these issues.  However, we updated the game right afterwards and the graphical glitches began appearing on his laptop too.  I have 2 screenshots that compare what it looks like now on my computer to what it looked like before the update on his computer.

My brother's game with an update from before the October 2020 update with no graphical issues:

My game and my brother's game with the current update with graphical issues:

Has anyone else run into these graphical issues with the latest few updates, or is it just our computers that this is happening to.

I have updated/restored the first post to fix the formatting issues caused by the changes to the forum database that took place at some point last year that deleted most of my tutorial.

I am not exactly sure what you mean by it being too risky.  It is supposed to restrict your controls to just the game screens (until you end the session) in order to allow you to have control of both games at the same time.  If you are having trouble getting the the split screen session to end, then I said in the tutorial that you can just press the "End" button on your keyboard once you are done playing to make everything go back to normal.

however it worked on windows 7

Also, regarding your comment from the download that I have for it on the Community Creations Online Vault, the computer that I was playing on and used to create the tutorial was running on Windows 10.  So I am not really sure why it was working for you on Windows 7 but not on Windows 10.

Questions & Tutorials / Tutorial: Split-Screen Multiplayer in THUG Pro
« on: December 28, 2019, 09:20:41 pm »
In this tutorial, I will be demonstrating a workaround to getting split-screen multiplayer to work in THUG Pro.  I have seen that quite a few people have been asking for this feature in the past because THUG Pro does not currently have a built-in split-screen multiplayer mode.  Using this tutorial, you should be able to play with 2 or more players on the screen at the same time.  While I was testing this method out, I was able to play with 4 players at the same time on my laptop and you might be able to play with up to 8 players (since that is the current limit in THUG Pro) if you have a good enough computer.  As a heads up though, this is not an actual split-screen mode.  It is instead multiple instances of online mode opened up and positioned next to each other.

Things you will need:
-   THUG Pro installed on your computer
-   2 or more controllers (I will be using two Xbox 360 controllers for this tutorial)
-   Universal Split Screen
-   My THUG Pro .json config file for Universal Split Screen (optional)

Step 1: Setting up Universal Split Screen
The main reason why opening multiple instances of the game at the same time in order to play “split-screen” did not work in the past is that your computer is normally only able to focus on one window at a time.  Only one of the instances of the game would be able to receive instructions from your controllers while the rest would be left out until you focus on them instead.  There are a few programs that can fix this problem.  The one that I am going to be using for this tutorial is named Universal Split Screen.

This program allows your computer to have the ability to focus on multiple programs at the same time.  As a result, the multiple instances of the game are able to receive input at the same time.  It also has the ability to allow each instance to only be controlled by a specific keyboard, mouse, or controller.  So, you can assign one controller to each window.

Once you have downloaded the program from their website, you will then extract the contents of the zip file to wherever you want on your computer.  Then, you can optionally download my .json config file and place it in your Config folder for Universal Split Screen.  This is not required, but it will allow THUG Pro to have its own preset that selects all of the required options for you.  Once you open Universal Split Screen, you can load this preset by going to the Options tab and then selecting THUG Pro from the drop-down menu followed by the Load button.

Step 2: Setting up your .exe files
One of the other reasons why using multiple instances of online mode did not work in the past is that even if you did open the game more than one time, it would only allow you to control the game with one controller.  The only way to change which of your controllers would control the game is to open the game’s launcher.  However, opening the launcher causes any game windows that are already open to close.  So, it was impossible to open one game that was using one controller and then open a second game with a different controller.

The launcher only closes the original THUGPro.exe file.  So to get around this issue, you need to make new copies of your .exe file.  Navigate into your C:\Users\USERNAME\AppData\Local\THUG Pro folder and copy your THUGPro.exe file.  You will need to make a duplicate of the file for every player that you want to participate in the game.  For example, if you want just 2 players, then you will need 2 duplicate files.  If you want 4 players, then you will need 4 duplicate files.  In the preview below, I have created 4 duplicates of the THUGPro.exe file and I have renamed each of the duplicates to include player numbers so I can recognize them for later use.

Step 3: Starting THUG Pro
Once you are finally ready to start the game, you will need to open everything in a specific order in order to make sure that you are able to use each of your controllers.  The first thing that you want to do is open your THUGProLauncher.exe.  Once you have opened the launcher, you should go to the Settings tab and change your screen resolution to a custom resolution of your choice.  Having multiple instances of the game open at the same time may slow down your game and reducing the resolution may help reduce any stuttering.  The laptop that I play on has a default display resolution of 1920 x 1080.  If I wanted to play with 2 players, then each game would take up around half of the screen. So, I might change the resolution to around 960 x 1080.  If I wanted to play with 4 players, then each game would take up around a quarter of the screen.  So, I might change the resolution to around 960 x 540.  I might need to reduce the resolution further if I notice any slowdown while playing.  The last thing that I should do on the settings tab is check the box for Windowed Mode.  This will allow me to move around each game window and position them in opposite edges or corners of my screen.

Once you have finished with the Settings tab, you then want to navigate over to the Gamepad Binding tab.  For your Player 1 Gamepad Configuration, make sure that you set the gamepad device as your 1st controller.  Then go through and set the controls to whatever buttons you want.

After you have finished setting all of the launcher options, go back to the Settings tab and press the Save and Exit button.  Once the launcher has closed, you want to navigate back to your game folder and run the .exe file that you made for player 1.  After the game has opened, verify that your 1st controller works with the game.  From there, you need to open the THUG Pro launcher back up and navigate back over to the Gamepad Binding tab again.  This time though, you need to make sure that your 2nd controller is selected for the gamepad device.

Again after setting your controller options, go back to the Settings tab and press Save and Exit.  Finally, navigate back to your game folder and run the .exe file that you made for player 2.  Verify that your 2nd controller works with the game.  If you want to have more than 2 players participate, then repeat the previous steps until you have enough games opened up with a controller that corresponds to each of them.  Align each game window in the orientation that you want to use while you are playing.

Step 4: Connecting each game window with Universal Split Screen
Now that you have opened your game windows next to each other, we need to make sure that both of them remain in focus at all times.  Back in Universal Split Screen, take turns navigating to each of your game windows in order to activate your mouse and keyboard for each of them.  When highlighting each window, press the Set Mouse button and type something in the Keyboard section.  Make sure that you do this for each game window you have open.

If you would like to remove the borders you can click on the Toggle Window Borders button while focusing on each game screen.  You can also remove your taskbar by right clicking on it, opening your Taskbar Settings, and then turning on Automatically Hide the Taskbar.  Finally, you should be ready to press the Start Split Screen button.  This allows you to have both game windows in focus at the same time.  To stop this split screen mode, press the End button on your keyboard.

Step 5: Setting up/joining a multiplayer game
If you have made it this far, you are pretty much finished.  All that you need to do is select Play Online and then choose if you want to use Internet or Local.  For this tutorial, I am going to select Local.  I have not tested Internet Multiplayer but it should be able to work as well.  From there you just set up a multiplayer lobby like you normally would and then have your other players join it.  Once you are finished playing, press the End button on your keyboard to stop the split screen mode.

Congrats to everyone who entered the contest!

I have been thinking about what theme I was going to select for the next contest. If the last theme was to make a recreation of a location from real life, maybe the next one can be the opposite: recreate somewhere from the THPS games.

Just submitted my Brooklyn Banks C.A.P. for the contest.  It is supposed to combine elements from the classic skate spot and current construction zone versions of the location.  It contains goals, gaps, KOTH, CTF, and a few skate lines.

Good luck to everyone who entered. I was able to submit my park right before the deadline. My park is a small graveyard containing a church, walls, and bridge crossing a small pond. It includes KOTH and CTF markers so I would recommend either of those for the online game mode.

I was planning to include a secret complete recreation of the graveyard from the New Orleans level hidden underground. However, when I finished it, I found out that it overlapped with another part of the park, so I had to cut it for the version that I submitted as I only had about 10 minutes before the deadline. Maybe once the competition is over, I might make an update of the park that has a fixed version of the secret area and upload it to the Community Creations section.

I just submitted my park.  It is supposed to be a small beach-side town.  It includes a skate park, factory, beach, river, and neighborhood. It also features gaps, goals, CTF flags, and KOTH crowns.

The games that I would recommend for this park are Goal Attack, Capture the Flag, or King of the Hill.

There are also a few hidden areas in the park.  There is a hidden underground area and also the top of the factory has an area to skate around if you can reach the top.

 Secret Area Hints:
- The factory rooftop can be accessed by Hip Transferring and Spine Transferring the multiple Short QP Boosters behind the houses in order to gain speed before launching off of the Coffee Shop towards the factory roof.  Or if you know how to Wall Jump Shuffle, you can just use that to get to the top instead.

- The entrance to the hidden underground area can be found if you look around the church area for a ladder.

I tried uploading them again.  For some reason, I followed the exact same steps that I was doing before multiple times and it eventually worked after like the 5th or 6th attempt.  So far, I have uploaded the parks that I submitted for the last 2 CAP contests along with a port of the THUG 1 pre-made park named Skate Mountain (since I enjoyed playing this park with my brother and sister when we were younger).  All three of these parks still required multiple upload attempts in order to not have the same error occur though.

Sounds good to me!  I can't wait!

On a side note, I have been trying to upload a few of my older parks to the upload section.  However, when I enter all the required information and then press the "Add to Community Uploads" button, I get sent to a page that says "Transferring back to Community Uploads..."  From there, it seems to just go into an endless loop of refreshing the page without actually proceeding on to the next page.  I was just wondering if this was a glitch in the system or if I was just doing something wrong.

Congrats to everyone who participated!  Truthfully, I was expecting the park made by JACU1990 (Yasoo) to win the contest.

For my park, the "1+1=3" rail art written in the classroom was meant as a joke because I am a math teacher in real life.  The COMBO goal looked like it was glitched in the video.  I originally meant for the "O" letter to be just on top of the tables.  However, it looks like having the pavilion over it caused it to be raised to a higher position for some reason.  I didn't notice it until I had already uploaded the park.  The goal is still possible, but now you either need to hit the jump at the exact correct time or else just buttslap/airshuffle to the top.  As for the doors at the top of the 24-set steps, it is not possible to go through them, but it is still possible to get inside of that 2nd floor behind them.  You can get there by going down into the classroom below and using the the quarter pipes to jump upwards.  You will then glitch through the ceiling into the 2nd floor.  There are a few more quarter pipes on this floor too.  From there, you can do the same thing on this floor and it will take you to the roof.

As for the theme for contest #7, would we be able to have a town/city theme?  I know we already had this team for the 1st contest, but this was way back in 2016 and nobody from the last 3 competitions had a chance to participate in that one.

I understand. I wouldn't want that kind of stuff posted on here either.

Thanks for the approval.

Okay.  I tried to do that earlier today and it told me that I had to be a part of the "Upload Approved" member group.  In order to be a part of the group, it said that I needed to fill something out to get permission.  I checked again just now and it says that I can now upload so I guess my request was approved.  Thanks!

Thanks!  I might try uploading some of my other parks if I am ever able to get permission to be in that "Upload Approved" group that lets me submit creations here.
