Title: Rest in Peace Colton (Fayte) Challis - December 28, 2016
Post by: DragonTHPS on January 04, 2017, 03:51:49 am
First of all, it was very hard for me to make this post? but I strongly believe everyone has the right to know about Fayte.  To some he was a friend, someone to idolize, a legend or even more more, however to me, Colton was family, a brother to me.  We met back in early 2004, I remember the day clearly as I stumbled into a West Coast lobby to watch people whore.  I would always randomly join a random west coast/east coast server (Coming from Pros/tXo server) to show the players about improv, I would beat them in score doing improv while they were still doing ?whore? lines. However, it wasn?t about showing off, to me it was about maybe showing someone a new way to play, to influence someone and bring someone over.  Guess who that person was, it was Fayte.

Me and Fayte talked about this throughout our life time, he told me when he saw me play he was in ?aw? because he never seen someone play like that before.  That is when I brought Fayte over to join my clan and got him to join the pros server, which at the time was iFS (improv Flow Style).  Which eventually became eX.  I watched Fayte grow through out my years, as he slowly got better and better, to the point he used to message me and and joke around and say ?looks like the student surpassed the master? (which he did, 1000x fold).  Now I am not going to go much further than that when it comes to THPS, since I can go on and on about our times on THPS, so I will end that chapter here.

Even when we stopped playing THPS for a bit, we played Socom 2 together, which he became really good at. I remember seeing him start Socom 2 as a noob and then seeing him come out as probably one of the best players I have seen play S2. At one point, we had lost contact for about 4-6 months? it was during my college year actually when I was playing World of Warcraft (WoW).  Surprisingly I got in contact with Colton once again and we reconnected. To add on the that surprise, he was also playing WoW too.  He played a Rogue and a Deathknight (the same class I played).  Both of us were the top of our class in the servers we played so naturally we would go on about who was stronger, who played the better class, etc?  In the end, Colton was the winner of that.

So?what this all comes down to and what I ultimate want to say about Colton was that any game he touched he would dominate in.  He was gifted, a genius.  To add to that, I always believed Colton would become really successful in his life.  Being a hard worker and always being dedicated with a laser focus on what ever he was trying to accomplish.  It wasn?t until last year, November 7th of 2015 where we finally met when he was visiting Southern California for Blizzcon 2015.  Colton was one of the most amazing people I have ever met in my life.  I will be honest, I was very awkward so the very first thing I did was reach out to shake his hand? Colton grabbed my hand pulled me in and said ?C?mon man, we have known each other for over 10 years, you can?t give me a hug, lol? then proceeded to hug me.  Colton really is one of the coolest and kindest people I have ever met.  We went to watch a movie and ended it there, hoping to meet again one day?

Unfortunately?  although I wish that this day would never have come, especially at this age? Colton has taken his own life?  It?s very unreal that I have to write this part, but I believe everyone needs to know.

Colton was facing a dark time in his life, with no one in real life to turn to, he turned to both me and Mike (Mike.tLT).  I have to give all my thanks to Mike as he was there more for Colton (as I was traveling out of the country when I was talking to Colton) till the very end.  I would talk to Colton, but from our conversations, whatever he was going through he could not hear my words in the end? Nor the words from Mike?   There was a darkness that Colton was facing, but sadly no one was physically there for him.  It has been a rough time for everyone who was there for Colton.  Sleepless nights, I never knew how much I could cry, how much pain I would feel from this.  I know some of you may joke about me or whatever, but I was deeply hurt, filled with anger and sadness for what has happened.  Mike also has shared the same pain and I have to thank Mike because he was there before Colton decided to take his life.  From across the world? Mike stayed up and got in contact to get the police on their way to Coltons place?. Unfortunately? it was too late..

Colton, I wrote you my feelings in Skype and I hope you read them.  To those who were close to Colton/Fayte,  who he has affected, I encourage you to write something to Fayte.  I know wherever he is, he will be there to read your message.

Colton? I love you and there will never be a day where I will forget about you.  At this point? I will never be able to play THPS the same again knowing you are not here to be there to play with me or to even play yourself.  I love you man, I wish you were here right now? but I know you are suffering no longer.

Rest in Peace Colton Challis, December 28th 2016.

Love you,

Matt (Dragon)

For myself, as I am personally nearing the end to the THPS series with this incident? I would like to say my good bye to you all as well.   Some may have seen me play as Mortal, only a few knew it was me, but I want to also say that I am grateful to have met every single one of you.  THPS has made me who I am today, so from me to you? Never forget where you came from. I will be on for at most a couple more weeks, I love you all.

I will leave you all with these vids of Fayte...

Some non THPS ones..

Absolutely breaks my heart to hear this. I played online with him many times, didn't get to know him very well at all- wish I would have, sounds like he was an incredible person outside of gaming.

I lost a good friend, neigh a brother, to suicide at the beginning of last year. It's a horrible thing. So very tragic. I feel your pain DragonTHPS, truly I do.

RIP Fayte. :(

Hey man, I'm going through a very similar situation, and I feel for you.

On the same day as your friend, my best friend Taylor passed away from a drug overdose. I went to his funeral earlier this afternoon.

I won't hijack your thread by telling a long story about my friend, but I wanted to let you know that there is someone here going through almost the exact same thing. If you want to talk, feel free to message me.

Keep thinking about the good times. Both Colton and Taylor are now watching over us.

The only time I remember seeing that name/person was in the Underground Plus vid (shown below). (It was at the end on the special thanks part.)
Sorry for your loss.

I didn't know him very well but I will never forget his competitiveness. We have some great CTF games over the years. It's always sad when this happens and I feel for his family and friends. Thanks for the post Drag.

Rest in peace, man... And I'm sorry for your loss, Dragon, and anyone else who knew him well.

I don't know if I ever actually played a round with him, maybe once or twice for a short period of time, but one of his streams of THUGPro was the reason I decided to round up enough cash and buy a new PSU just so I could get back to playing it. I'd say that was a pretty good decision. There's been a lot of positivity come from that. So thanks for that, definitely.

I'll try getting THUGPro running on my laptop to hop online and play a few rounds. I totally suck at the kind of shit he could do, but it just seems like a kind of fitting way to honor his own love of the game, I think.

I finally feel the courage to post here.

Sorry about your loss, and the losses of others as well. It seemed like he was a guy with a whole life ahead of him. I hope you can find a way to deal with the feelings. Maybe we can, for example, step in his shoes and do something TH related he would be proud of to see us do.

I think it's fairly confronting to see this on the main page, but it is something big to be acknowledged. I never knew him, but I can definitely imagine the pain in people's lives like dragon, that did know him.

holy shit matt (dragon) i hope  you remember me because i share some stories with you and we go pretty far back but anyway back to the point.. My friend that ive known for 11 years now told me earlier this week that her friend died and she was heartbroken. She never mentioned who this was nor did i ask how she knew him. She told me CJCHALLIS was his name and it never dawned on me. I knew colton decently well. We played thps, socom and we constantly chatted on aim and we're pretty decent friends and at one point i would say he was the nicest person who played on the TXO servers. As im writing this all the memories of him are flowing through me and i feel like i could have done more to kept in touch with him. I can say there are times in my life that have been dark and perhaps i could have been just like him, but this is life and we have to persevere now. Anyway i ended up googling cj challis and ended up finding his facebook and people saying his memorial would be saturday/today ( my friend told me it would be saturday and she was trying to fly to attend and i was actually going to go with her but the costs were too much) anyway i ended up finding up through the youtube video of him through facebook and read the THPS and was awestruck. This is the same guy that ive known since i was like 12/13 playing thps. I certainly wish i found this out much sooner who he was to me and to all of us so i could attend the memorial. I will always remember this man.

To everyone else, i played thps for a pretty long time and i recognize a lot of names in here, sk8 drag, and i hope that anyone who recognizes my name to keep in touch with me through skype or somehow. anyway just wanted to share this with everyone.

oh and i havent talked to my friend about all this, but im going to later today.

I just found out about this and it honestly made me shed some tears. It's been several years since I've been in touch with fayte. Even though I never knew him on a personal level out side of video games, it feels like I did. If you ever read this dragon keep in touch man https://www.facebook.com/scottisseksi
