What's wrong with it? People here may be able to help.

It powers on but no lights, no display and it shuts down after a few seconds, but fans spin.
Still trying to figure out the problem. :/

Nothing wrong, actually, but it's just that i didn't expect this thread to be actually made, lol

Sounds like the motherboard is bad. If it was just shutting off I'd think it was overheating, but the fact that you get no display and no lights sounds like a bigger problem to me. I'm no expert of course.

Invalid ram?

Maybe, i've no mobo lying around so i think im fucked, i was also suspecting PSU but not really sure, i can give the full story to see if it helps.

Invalid ram?
Doubtful, i should try, wouldn't hurt, but it's still not likely

1: Remove all USB items and try.

2: Check for Mobo shorts.

3: Check that the CPU fan is still attached and spinning. (I had one come loose and made the comp auto-shutdown to protect the cpu)

4: Remove all but 1 stick of RAM and try. If no boot, rotate in another stick and try.

4.B: If you have more than 2 ram slots try in the next ram slot pair. Had an issue with ram before and 2 out of 4 ram slots were bad.
5: Might be a faulty power supply. Perhaps not supplying +12v which would prevent power to critical components. You can disconnect it and short 2 pins (this varies if you have a proprietary system e.g. some compaq/hp/dell) google it. You can then use a voltage meter to test the power supply.
Title: Not sure if take a shit or sleep.. Why not both!? 😆

Oh, yea, i saw about that in a vid! Might actually give it a try after trying 1 to 4 (B). (Which i'll do in about 6 hours, right now i can't)

Plus i remember having a "Memory voltage" value being ridiculously high when it could (almost) boot.

BTW, I made this topic, because you getting your pc fixed is what topics derail to like 10% of the time. I figured it was time for this :)

did you reapply thermal paste on the new one?

Are you getting a bios screen?

Noope! I've no thermal paste with me, might ask for one someday.

Are you getting a bios screen?
Noope!
It used to, but the PC would only boot after several attempts, never the first.

Do you remember when it stopped working?
Title: ShutMeUp!!!'s box.
Post by: ShutMeUp! on October 12, 2016, 10:43:28 am
Well, i do and know it didn't stop suddenly, i know i was playing THUGPro and calling on skype with the crew, until i had an BSoD, it restarted fine and happened once. After a while, another BSoD, and again and again and again, to the point where it could not let me login because of freezing/BSoD while loading Windows 8, even tried using an windows 8 installation disc since it told me that boot.exe (along with other system files) was missing/corrupted, with the help of Josh-AUS i tried an elimination process and stuff, but after replacing the CPU, the PC wouldn't even boot!
(It still doesn't)

TL;DR

Yes, i do remember, it did not start all of a sudden, tho, but i remember that like it was a week ago. (Actually 7 months ago)

You can't run a cpu without thermal paste. The cpu is probably fried/dead.

So, pretty much, you've had no PC for more than half a year already.
Wow...

Why did you replace the cpu? Are you sure the cpu you got fits the motherboard? It needs to be specific to your motherboard.

The first CPU had no thermal paste on it, which i assume my bro removed it after i saw him removing the fan, not sure why.
Now, the CPU i installed, it already had TP... I fucked up, did i? :l
Unless you meant the CPU i installed, i don't know if this is a good answer now. ō_

If the new one already had it then you are good.

The fact that it never worked is interesting. I had to upgrade my motherboard Bios to accept an upgraded CPU. Maybe your Mobo doesn't recognize the new chip?

Putting the old CPU back in would be my first option I would do. That way you can at least boot it up and install the latest bios for that motherboard.

If you could, write down both CPU model numbers as well as your motherboard number so we can look up compatibility.

There are different generations of Core2Duo that may not work in the same motherboard.

Post by: ShutMeUp! on October 12, 2016, 11:59:39 pm
Well, i only know the old one, maybe i could send a pic and you could more or less recognize it perhaps. Not sure myself.

You're supposed to clean off the thermal paste and reapply a new bit of goop. If it were a new thermal pad you'd be okay although thermal pads aren't the best but better than nothing.

As sk8ace mentioned about bios sometimes the socket supports the cpu but the mainboard was made when slower versions of the cpu were available.
Maybe you could try and flash a newer bios if the one in the system isn't the most recent.

Hey Shut!

Any updates?
Title: My PC? What about it now? It's not working, but don't donate me one, please.
Post by: ShutMeUp! on November 30, 2016, 12:22:38 pm
Well, let's just say.. I haven't tried anything else, it feels like the CPU was fine all along, just no TP and the problems are most likely on either PSU or motherboard, which i don't have any replacements, plus i'll be wasting my time if i keep trying "to find which is the problem", im not feeling like dettaching something to the PC that is very attached, i rather somebody much more experienced do it but the problem is, a technician costs money and my older brother.. How am i going to explain my theory if he's the experienced one and im just slowly learning? Plus i have a low risk of getting my HDD totally formatted, better not take it even if it's a little, and trust me, luck isn't something i have. I got a lot of important stuff in there, don't get me started on Skype chat pics, THUGPro texmod tpfs and my damn drawings!

I'll rely on my bro giving me a way better PC after he's done with buying his stuff, aka February 2017 or later.

I promise to draw some CASes (you heard that right! I fucked up a surprise, tho) when i get the PC for the patience of having to wait long enough to get to meet the skype chat!

For now, i'll be checking this forums daily! :D

tl;dr
If you did skip it, i hope a dog bite your balls and your christmas tree falls on you. 😡
If you did read it, i hope you have a wonderful christmas and a happy new year! 😄❤
All i said was there's nothing i can do but wait until i get a new PC on february or later, that's all.

I'll just draw who wants to be drawn as long as they provide CAS references, i'll need like maybe a week to get used to the tools, tho.
Im planning on drawing each of the active thpsX members as long as they're fine with me drawing them (I mean their CASes).. Skatefilter5 excluded, he has been a bad boy this year so he'll not receive my late christmas gift. After all, i know he'll request me to draw Garvy Du, Joseph Lo and his rest of the CASes included the remakes, so fucking no.
Everybody else deserves a drawing! :3
And for those who wants to know more or less what is my artstyle, combine this (http://pre09.deviantart.net/c301/th/pre/f/2016/088/7/9/death_stare_v2_by_shutmeup4000-d9wx9kf.png) with DesignDoll, in others words, it's more like an sketchy artstyle but now the proportions are gonna be way better than what was shown so i can do full body drawings.. AND CHIBIS! :O

And if SK8.William sees this, i'll re-draw you too if you like, will, full body drawing and customizable hats now! :P

I use the Medium hairstyle for the CAS,so,without the beanie,it should look a little bigger.

I would love to be included in this!

If you need any refs, you can always check my art thread, (http://thpsx.com/forums/index.php?topic=96.0) or my Tumblr blog. (http://lightningsam.tumblr.com/)

I was already thinking of doing so, im not sure if they were made randomly but if they work for it, i'll just use them, lol
Except i was planning on visiting your thread, it's the only place i recall seeing them on. ._.'

EDIT: I checked if it was faster to find in Tumblr than thpsx but uhm, i think the reference pic isn't on your Tumblr, in the "My arts" section at least. :l

Oh yeah, I never did post the refsheet on Tumblr. Weird, as I'm a lot more active on Tumblr than I am DA. :P

(I'll draw a much better and improved refsheet soon, though. The refsheet I currently have is pretty sloppy.)
