Do you have many computers on your network? I don't believe the devs can do anything about it. 1-2 second lag spikes are going to drop a ton of game packets. Are you wireless or wired? Who is your ISP?

Do you have access any wired computers? If the ping drops are happening on the wired computers as well, then it could be an ISP problem. It also could be bad wiring/splitters/modem/router.

If you have access to a wired pc, run a ping test, http://www.pingtest.net/  and see what it says. Might have to run it a couple times to see if you are getting drops.

Glad you got it figured out. There can be a lot of interference with wifi. You can play with the channel settings if your area is saturated with other people's wifi. You can use an app on your phone (Android but not sure about Apple phones) for wifi analyzing and see what channels are least used.
