Title: THUGPro update suggestions/discussion
Post by: Chatter on October 08, 2016, 04:59:21 am
Hello community!

Here's a topic for suggesting and discussing everything you can think of about what should or could be in future THUGPro updates.
Not all ideas have to be realistic, just suggest whatever you like. Maybe in some months/years it can become reality (but obviously don't count on it)

I heard people speculate next update being spring 2017, containing a lot of re-written code to fix crashes and stability issues, as well as a new THAW level.

My hopes for new updates, are mostly things I've already suggested, but I can summarize:
-New levels (obviously), and, I would love to be able to play the THPS2x levels, never played those. (might get an xbox emu+rom someday)
-Obviously stability issues being fixed, I'm glad the devs/mods are working on it.

-New/enhanced gamemodes, for example:
-Scav with seperate timers+choose how many objects (RN it's always 5 per person)
-Gap attack
-Firefight with powerups, kinda like Mario Kart battle mode
-Some other types people have suggested, like god graff, hide&seek, control zone, tag, etc.

-Achievements! Recently made a topic about them and I'm loving everyone's ideas.
-Ranked play (it's suggested, if you go online it shows ranked:no)
-More CaP/CaS/textures/graphics things. Possibly even fan-submitted content.
-Create a graphic (I believe this was in UG2/AW, so why not THUGPro?)

Obviously some of my ideas could be hard and time-consuming to program, and I'm not specifically hoping for anything (other than crash fixes), these are just my suggestions and I would like to know what others think.

PS: Since updates are so much spoken of, there might be another topic about this, couldn't find it. Sorry if this is essentially a doubled topic now.

-Chatter

Get THPS3 for PC and download Levelmod. It has all maps before THPS3, a few from THPS4 & THUG2 if im not mistaken.

Levelmod has:

THPS3 & THPS4 Lost Levels
All THPS1 Levels
All THPS2 Levels
All THPS2x Levels
All THPS4 Levels (College is locked away in the files since it causes crashes.)

The thread on Chapter 3 has the THPS4 update. (http://chapter-3.net/thps3/v2/showthread.php?tid=3141)

There are quite a few CAS items that are in the game but blocked, such as ped items from thug2. It would be cool to see some of them get added/unblocked.

Ranked play would definitely be cool, maybe even leaderboards (may require moderation due to people exploiting them)

The rumor mill will churn out garbage no matter the facts. Surprises are far better.

I'd like to see more chat commands like:
/start - start a game
/end - end the game (obviously :P )
/kick "name"
/ban "name"
/mute "name"

Maybe something like a /help command that shows you a list of all the commands.

Also if it's possible to do bind keys for /set, /goto and /warp it would be quite convenient.

(edit)
Oh, and I almost forgot about it...
Ghost mode:
When the game ends and somebody is for example whoring you can still skate around but your score will not be counted and (idk if that's possible) you will be invisible to other players.
This could prevent players like skatefilter abusing the debug menu because he is bored after 0.

That's pretty cool. You can mute people by the Player List, though, but it would be easier this way.

Some kind of mod alert system would be nice to see also. Like on THAW ps2 if someone was cheating with gameshark it would alert the host when they started a game. That way people could run mods but be weeded out of the legit lobbies. Modding has always been a large part of THPS, so a way to do so without affecting others would be cool. I support both the legit side and less-than-legit side of the game  :P

I wouldn't call it advantageless. It gets quite boring when somebody is whoring (nice rhymes) and you just sit there and watch the player do the same things for a few minutes...

The chat command code was designed to support parameters so this might happen one day.
There used to be start and end game commands you needed to be the host and there were some like "start a game" and "start a fucking game" for client side commands which have been disable in release builds.

Quite the oversight, should be added. Couldn't be dumped to the console though, perhaps a dialog that'll pop up to display them.

Should have something like this in a future release as well as a way for host to allow or disallow modded players.

I've done this in a mod before too. The thugpro command code is different so it wouldn't need to be hard codded.
Could simply add a new element to each command structure for description and parse the array of commands to build it dynamically.

Now I know what those commands were.

Those aren't the unused commands those are the commands used. If something isn't working report it.

The first element is a array of text commands so each command can have multiple triggers.
The next is the function.
The next is the parameters.
The next is a flag that specifies if it is for client only or if it can be a client to host command if clientside commands were enabled.

But these should currently be in the game and work if you're the host.
Code: [Select]
:i $cmd_strings$ = :a{
%s(0,"/END")
%s(0,"/ENDGAME")
:a}
Code: [Select]
opens the game option menu
:i $cmd_strings$ = :a{
%s(0,"/GAME")
%s(0,"7GAME")
%s(0,"/GAEM")
%s(0,"/GEAM")
%s(0,"/gamegame!")
%s(0,"/gaem pls")
:a}
Code: [Select]
starts last selected game
:i $cmd_strings$ = :a{
%s(0,"/START")
%s(0,"/START A GAME")
%s(0,"/START A FUCKING GAME")
:a}

Yeah, I realize my mistake now. You can't enable the option so the console will never parse them.

Anyway, yea, immature people with vagina facemaps/decks will happen, but hadn't seen it happen yet, LUCKILY.
I had seen a guy    (https://s20.postimg.org/81ykad0n1/IMG_20160602_WA0009.jpg) playing with the blue stars top, tho, but that was just once.

Depended on the cheat. Blaze gave out some hacked cas's and those people wouldn't get kick despite heavily using the cheats.
It all depends on the host, too.

Hold on a moment there. There are many levels in thugpro, it just feels stale because everybody wants to play the same levels all the time. Just play any map that is NOT: School 2, Foundry, Airport, Alcatraz, New Jersey, Mannhattan, Tampa, Australia, Nawlins, and East LA and I am sure that the game will feel less stale.

Morten already stated no more thaw maps any time soon.

If there's anything they can change soon, I really really really hope it's these new spin tabs. At least leave an option for the original PC port controls. Don't limit spin tabs to either R1-L1 or R2-L2. I should be able to have R1 be spin right and R2 be spin left like I've had it for years on t1, t2 and tpro.

Yeah, I can understand the map thing. I might be alone with this, but I feel like so many maps feel/play similarly.

Most THUG1 maps feel the same for me, for example. They're just some cities. (Don't get me wrong, UG1 is still a phenomenal game)

I usually see:
Manhattan
Australia
Barcelona
Airport (why is this map so popular anyway?)
New Orleans
College (mainly because its the default selection, I think)
East LA.
Los Angeles.

I like some of these maps, but playing them over and over again isn't very interesting to me. But, I would still enjoy a game of Scav in there, for example. (Because you'll play the maps in a way you never played them before)

Maps I like and feel are (a little) underplayed:
-Alcatraz
-Cruise Ship (I usually say this is my favourite map, although I don't have a true fave)
-Foundry
-Oil Rig
-Shipyard
-Hawaii
-Carnaval
-Pro Skater
-Boston
-Berlin (not underplayed though)
-City Center

As for update suggestions, I would like CaP crash fixes and increased memory the most, for now.

Any THPS3 map is underplayed nowadays.. What's even sad is that the THPS3 update is among my favorite THUGPro updates of all time.

Also, Airport is usually the place for CTF, while it is a crazy idea having a flag at the beginning and one at the end, it can become really dull quickly, reason why i mostly avoid these "Airport CTF" rooms.

About hosting:

In THUGPro, whenever a host quits the game, it ends that entire room, kicking every player to the online lobby.

Instead of this, could we make it so that someone else becomes the host, once the host leaves? That way the room can stay, and nothing ends abruptly. We should also be able to vote to kick hosts, would be useful for inactive hosts.

Instead of this, could we make it so that someone else becomes the host, once the host leaves? That way the room can stay, and nothing ends abruptly. We should also be able to vote to kick hosts, would be useful for inactive hosts.

No.
This is not how online works.

Haha, vote to kick host. That's a sure fire way to make people stop hosted without passwords. Host your own room.

Oh yeah, I remember playing a THUG1 PS2 server (not sure what it was), but it was already up with no people and it was on a first come first serve basis. Basically the first person to join was the host, and the others were, well, not the host. Is this possible with THUGPro or something?

Ooh, ooh, I have a suggestion.  Remember when you you guys did the Pro Skater 3 update?  Those levels had the original ambient pedestrian chatter.  Well, the thug/thug 2 classic levels from Pro Skater 3 don't have that, and I think that sucks.  It'd be great if you guys replaced the thug/thug 2 versions with the pro skater 3 versions, or at least added them.  Offline, the levels just aren't the same without the peds and the chatter.

On the topic of THPS3, TH3 balance meters/theme would be cool ayy

Forget thps3 balance meters, the THAW balance meters had a green and red zone so you knew which direction would safely land a trick.  Half the time with flatland tricks you can't even tell, and some of them even switch the directions.  Flatland sucks because of that.  Those are my biggest priority, and I hope to see them once all of the THAW levels or the bank transfer have been ported.  Though I can see a problem since that means each trick had a balance meter, and so it's not just two balance meters (3 if you count the difference between the manual and nose manual) but 10, unless it was just grouped by trick.

Well, the THPS3 balance meters also have a similar option on PC (and i believe PS2/Xbox as well).. e_e
If we got that thing from the THAW hud, we could probably have it for the THPS3 hud too! It will just depend on how things work, tho. THAW's was the whole meter turning red/green, THPS3 was a couple of circles getting smaller/bigger and maybe a color change but im not so sure about it since i briefly played THPS3 PC.
I'd appreciate it if someone reminded me how the THPS3 balance meters worked since last time i played THPS3... Has it been 8 months now? Well, you get the idea.

And about the bank drop, i recall seeing morten bank dropping in Rio on a lobby i was connected to/hosting, problem is, after a hype and people thinking it would be there in the next update, he stated that he would have to remake all maps ported just to enable bank drops properly, remember we got like 50 maps! If just one is a pain, imagine the other 40-something.

Not that he aborted it but it'd be a pain in the ass for the devs, that's for sure.
At that moment, i think the one guy was still active or recently left the place, but it was long ago.

Fair enough, I haven't played thps3 on anything but ps1.  Just look it up on youtube!  *runs to put money where mouth is* Just from watching it, the circles DO grow the closer you get to them, but they don't seem to correlate to whether or not you'll bail, they look the same grinding a ledge and a half-pipe lip.   If I'm wrong and they do, thps3 still has no flatland tricks (despite the ones the neversoft eyeball man does in the games intro), while THAW does, which potentially means less work porting it.  As for the bank dropping, I don't care that much for it, but i read a recent forum post saying it will be coming eventually, but if what you say is true, that sucks.  But the most important thing to me is the ability to have either

Oh, did i just worded that wrong? D:

I meant that it most likely WILL come eventually, just not nearby but it will come.

Also, that's why i said a "similar" system. e_e
But wouldn't that affect only THAW themes? Like, there are just 2 of em.

It'd be gnarly if we could make our own themes with THAW's hud thingy, but creating the textures from scratch included the green/red thingy! Guess i'll just replace the non-AW one for that! ;)

Whatever happened to the custom theme builder?  I remember using it when it had a single version, what happened?

I heard this feature corrupted save files and was removed.

Yep. Im pretty sure that was the reason, according to Skater1014, it was there for a really short time so it sure was glitchy af.

Yeah, it didn't last that long.
It was a nice feature to have when it worked.

I bet that they could probably fix it by having the game write the theme to the registry instead of the save file.

Deja vu, but indeed! Oh well, it'll be long till we touch it, feel it, lick it, taste it!
Jk, but you get my point, we probably will see it a few years later, if lucky, i just hope we can make one from scratch cuz i just got an idea for the THAW balance system.

You'd think that there would be a topic about this
I just got an idea for the THAW balance system.

I just wish the balance meter from THAW comes back, most important feature imho.

Minor thing it may seem, but I would love to see a gap-checklist for non UG2 levels.
